The beach of Preveli is the most idyllic beach in Rethymno. Preveli reminds of an exotic lagoon. It is an oasis of palm trees with crystalline greenish waters and fine soft sand. Kourtaliotis River ends at this wonderful beach, creating a delta.

The Venetian stronghold of Fortezza is built on top of a low hill above Rethymno Town, Crete. This huge fortress, with its turbulent history, was built between 1540 and 1570 by the Venetian maritime power as a bulwark against Turkish pirates.

Frangokastello is one of the most famous beaches of Crete, famous for the local Venetian castle on the beautiful beach and the legendary ghosts of Drosoulites. The castle was built by the Venetians in 1371-74 as a garrison to impose order on the rebellious Sfakia region.

In the nearby resort visitors will be able to find everything in term of accommodations and entertainment. Plakias village has a beautiful sandy beach with wonderful clean waters and fully-organized infrastructures such as sun beds, umbrellas, hotels, taverns, cafes and restaurants.

Samaria National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, draws tens of thousands of visitors per year to hike the spectacular gorge at its center. While it’s not the only gorge in the area, Samaria Gorge is by far the biggest—in fact, it’s Europe’s second-largest canyon overall.
